Cdc Reports Significant Decline In Fatalities

COVID-19 falls to 10th leading cause of death in US

CDC reports significant decline in fatalities

Cases down 69% in 2023

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported on Thursday that COVID-19 has fallen to the 10th leading cause of death in the United States in 2023. This marks a significant decline from its previous ranking as the fourth leading cause of death in 2022 and the third-leading cause during the height of the pandemic.

According to the CDC, approximately 76,000 deaths were associated with COVID-19 in 2023, a 69% decrease from the previous year. This decline can be attributed to several factors, including widespread vaccination, the availability of effective treatments, and the natural evolution of the virus into less severe strains.

Early in the pandemic, COVID-19 was the nation's third leading cause of death. However, as the virus has become more manageable, it has fallen down the list of leading causes. The CDC's report indicates that the US has made significant progress in combating the pandemic, and that the virus is no longer posing the same level of threat to public health as it did in the past.
